2013 St James’s Palace Stakes Trifecta Tip

Dawn Approach (11/8) from Magician (9/4) and Glory Awaits (25/1)

It is very difficult to split Dawn Approach and Magician but if the New Approach colt can return to his best he will be very tough to beat. There is no question that his Epsom Derby performance was incredibly disappointing but the fact that master trainer Jim Bolger is confident enough to run him again this quickly means that there hasn’t been any lasting effects from the dismal effort as Bolger would not risk the long term health of the colt. At his current St James’s Palace Stakes odds of 11/8 Dawn Approach isn’t without risk but will win easily if he produces his peak rating.

Magician was very impressive in the Irish 2000 Guineas and is unbeaten from two starts this campaign. Aidan O’Brien has a sensational record in this race and he has a very high opinion of the son of Galileo. Although he lacks the brilliance of Dawn Approach he still possesses an excellent turn of foot and the ability to finish with a sustained run. He is the clear threat to the Godolphin colt.

Glory Awaits finished second behind Dawn Approach in the 2000 Guineas and at his current odds of 25/1 is a good bet to finish in the placing’s. The son of Choisir hasn’t won in his last six starts but he is a consistent galloper who generally performs well despite being available at big odds.
